Hi there!
The excitement and glamour of a treasure hunt is universal. Films like National Treasure and the Da Vinci code perfectly capture this feeling of adventure and spark our imaginations. So who doesn't love the fact there is a real treasure hunt existing in the world today - and I'm not talking about the geocaching variety, read on below for all the info! So did you enjoy last week's newsletter? How long did you spend on the music one? This week there are some fab links (if I say so myself!), photos from the opening day of Disneyland in 1955, a way to gamify your pomodoro technique (it will make sense!) and much more. I've also added a little 'pot luck' link at the end of the email for a bit of fun! Let me know what you think…
Clever Tools
A common stumbling block to productivity is too much scrolling on our phones. The Forest App is linked to the Pomodoro Technique which helps you focus on a task for 25 mins at a time. With the Forest App you commit to leaving your phone alone whilst you let a little tree grow (you'll see what I mean). If you go on your phone your tree will start to wither and die but if you keep off your phone you can gradually grow a forest!
This Decibel Meter App does just that - measures decibels, I love little apps and tools like this. I don't know if it was the excitement but I'm pretty sure it picked up my heart beat!
If you've heard of Buffer, you'll know you can use it to schedule your social media posts, but did you know they also have a handy tool for creating Stories? So now you can create those Instagram Stories with ease, very neat!
Brain Food
In the UK 3.5 million people wear contact lenses and in the US it's 45 million. That's a lot of people! This article delves into the history and science of contact lenses - but in a fun and interesting way.
If we want to get our planet's carbon dioxide levels down, then this amazing infographic shows what each industry needs to do. It's made by David McCandless who is the author of 'Information is Beautiful' and 'Knowledge is Beautiful' - two great books that explain stuff through clever infographics.
A fascinating and thorough article from a real doctor about knees, how they work, how to keep them strong and common problems. So next time you make an 'oof' sound getting out of your chair, think about reading this! It also has some lovely animations as well.
Fun stuff
It sounds like the plot from a film but in 2010 retired pilot and antique dealer, Forrest Fenn, decided to create his own treasure hunt. He wrote a poem to give clues, got an actual antique chest and filled it with gems, gold coins and nuggets and hid it somewhere in New Mexico. So far the treasure has yet to be found!
This site has so much good stuff, but the space one is my favourite - have a quick go. It shows the size of the planets in relation to each other. It's a bit mind blowing.
In 1955, Walt Disney opened Disneyland in California, only a select few press were meant to be there, but somehow lots of tickets got counterfeited, so the numbers where a lot higher. Here are the photos from that day. I didn't know there was a river boat!
