Hi there,
Hope you've had a good couple of weeks? We’ve started seeing people again - edging out of the old lockdown. Lots of sitting in gardens and chatting - has been lovely!
This week there’s a link about creating a mini-site for yourself, looks really neat, it got me thinking that along with the previous tools for putting your CV online, there are so many ways to get yourself out online nowadays.
Enjoy the links…
brain food
I'm a sucker for a list, especially a list made with a nice pen and lovely notebook. So, it was interesting to read why we can remember more of something when we write it down.
A Cyclist on the English Landscape
This is a lovely little piece from the New York Times about a travel photographer who, well, can't travel. Instead, he goes off and rides his bike and takes some photos. Makes me want to go for a bike ride!
clever tools
Mini personal website for free
Beacon is a bit like linktree but much more adaptable. Basically, you create a mini-site for yourself that would include links to various things, for example to your website, YouTube channel, Instagram, Etsy or a charity you like to support. The above link is to a gallery so you can see the types of styles you can create, but also here's an explanation of how you start.
You can't get more simple than this really. If you have work team members or family that live in a different time zone this is a really quick way to see what time it is for them. You can add extra time zones with the menu at the side. Looks good on desktop and mobile.
fun stuff
Cut out and make Cassette Tape
Remember them? Mixtapes? Creating a mixtape was a work of art. Curating the playlist just right. What this site does is let you add a QR Code, then they email you a cut out of a mixtape that when you stick it together looks like a cassette. Love that nostalgic feel! I'm sure there are many uses for this - treasure hunt, parties, presents etc. Also, you may remember this little video from Edition 26 about the last cassette factory.
Funny tool to get out of Zoom calls
We've most likely all been there. In a zoom call that you want to get out of. Well, this might be handy. Basically, you can add various sound effects, like dogs barking, construction work, all sorts. I've linked above to the site, but here's a link to a quick (and funny) explanation video. This could save the world 1000's of work hours I reckon!
